La dificultad de un estudio coherente del sistema de las preferencias del crédito estriba en la triple perspectiva: material, procesal y registral del tema, así como a su carácter multidisciplinar, del que es difícil ofrecer una perspectiva unitaria y coherente; también es abrumadora la tarea de recoger fuentes y materiales dispersos. Ante este reto la preocupación central ha sido la de ofrecer un estudio práctico, en el que la pretensión de síntesis prevalece sobre la de exhaustividad, y la realidad jurisprudencial y sencillez sobre el debate doctrinal. El lector que haya leido el trabajo anterior del autor El registro de la propiedad y el sistema de preferencias crediticias, Editorial Comares, Granada 1995, observará que aunque en este libro se toman materiales del estudio anterior y el objeto de estudio es análogo, la obra es radicalmente distinta en contenido y ordenación sistemática. Ello se debe no sólo a las importantes reformas legislativas posteriores, sobre todo la ley de enjuiciamiento civil y la nueva ley concursal, sino también a la importancia de las aportaciones doctrinales y jurisprudenciales sobre el tema.
